I have some of the greatest friends here in Chicago, so a few of us decided it was time to take Burt out for a girlfriends' camping trip away from the city; some good time to disconnect and destress. It was originally going to be three of us, however, work obligations held one of my friends back, sadly [but that just means we'll have to do another trip to check "girls glamping weekend" off of the list officially :) ].
Maquoketa Caves State Park
We camped at Maquoketa Caves State Park and it was beautiful. Our campsite was great - it had a fire pit, nice shaded wooded area and three perfect trees for our two hammocks. We hiked the trails through the caves on Saturday morning. They were gorgeous and not nearly as touristy or packed as Starved Rock [a go-to for many Chicagoans who miss hiking and the outdoors]. There was so much to look and explore!
After a few hot hours of hiking around it was time grab some water and cool off in hoses!
On our drive into Maquoketa, we couldn't help but notice a drive-in movie theater off of the highway. So we had to check it out on Saturday night. We packed up a charcuterie board, some beer and games [Dominion :)] and headed to the theater. It was a lovely evening, we tailgated as we awaited the movie to start. Then we enjoyed the show under the stars.
